Volunteering with Voices and Choices

Do you have spare time? Could Volunteering be for you?

Help people find the practical services they need to stay Safe and Sound at Home. Provide the support they need when talking to professionals like GPs and solicitors, or maybe their own family.

Our Information and Advice Volunteers receive an accredited induction course and on-going support; they visit people in their own homes to discuss their needs and find the help they need. Our Web Copywriters, Admin Volunteers and Marketing Volunteers provide the essential back-up to provide admin support and keep the website updated.

Currently we are seeking the following:

Information and Advice Volunteers

The Role

(Multiple roles are available)

To provide information and advice to clients contacting the service, by telephone or by visiting clients in their own home. You will be offered a five day training course, accredited by the Open College Network, to support you in advice giving and to identify the information resources available to you.

Skills required

If you have good communication skills, common sense and an interest in people, together with flexibility and reliability, you have the necessary skills to support our clients. In addition to the induction course, additional training will be offered, together with regular supervision and peer support. There will be opportunities to develop skills to deliver community advocacy.

Web Copywriter

The Role

(Multiple roles available, working from home or from an office location)

Team player responsible for owning and editing content on the website. Working to an agreed standard and contributing to the development of that standard as new areas are developed. Part of a remote team working on the website. This role will allow an individual to research, create and develop materials and add them to the website under the leadership of the Lead Copywriter. Some experience of working in remote teams will be useful.

Skills Required

Computer literate with MS Office applications such as MS Word or equivalent packages. Knowledge of how to use a web browser and create and edit documents is required. Knowledge of editing images would be useful but not essential. No experience is required with regards to web editing. Training will be provided to fill in the gaps.

Ability to contribute to the efficient working of a remote team and support the Lead Copywriter.

Admin Volunteer

The Role

(Multiple roles available, working from home or from an office location)

To help manage the day-to-day running of the organisation and support the administration of the computerised client database.

Skills Required

If you have good communication skills, verbal and written, are computer literate and have the ability to self-motivate and work alone, this role should interest you.

Ability to contribute to the efficient working of the team and support the Lead Administrator and other volunteers.

Marketing Volunteer

The Role

Responsible for delivering the marketing strategy of Voices and Choices using Facebook, Twitter and other media. Echo content on the website, especially as part of any marketing initiatives and set up links back to the main website.

Skills required

Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Interest in social media, how it works, and where it works effectively.

If you already, or have previously, run a Facebook page or Twitter for a group or entity, then it is likely you have highly relevant skills for this role.
