Treasured Memories Club: For People Living With Dementia

by | Mar 26, 2018 | Activities, Carers, Dementia, News

Recently launched at Chesham Methodist Church the Treasured Memories Club (TMC) is a group for people living with dementia and their carers. The club, which runs on the second Friday of the month from 2.00-4.00pm, gives people with dementia the opportunity to recall happy memories through music and reminiscence materials. The spring and summer dates are as follows – 13 Apr, 11 May, 8 Jun and 13 Jul.

The first half of the meeting, which is led by Frances, a Community Musician from Chiltern Music Therapy, includes a sing-along and the chance to play-along with various instruments. The tunes are all popular ones and song sheets are provided! The music session is followed by a time to socialise over tea and cake with reminiscence materials available to prompt conversations about days gone by.

Chesham Methodist Church became aware of the dangers of isolation associated with dementia, both for the people living with dementia and their carers, and as a result TMC was formed. By bringing people together with others in a similar situation it is hoped that supportive friendships will grow. Chesham Methodist Church, has ample parking, with disabled access and toilet. The group is suitable for those in the early stages of dementia but they must be accompanied. A donation of £2.00 per couple is suggested.

Numbers are restricted so to book a place please contact Gill McNab, the Church2Community Worker, on 01494 785956 or Chesham Methodist Church, Bellingdon Road, Chesham, Bucks, HP5 2HA
