Spring into Action
Spring is on the horizon with the prospect of longer days and better weather so what better time to start thinking about getting active and
trying out a new activity. Being active helps both our physical and mental wellbeing. Just getting out for a short walk or meeting up with a friend for a coffee can positively affect our mood. There are lots of opportunities to be active and to connect with others out there but it’s also easy to just stay put and watch the TV – why not give yourself a challenge this year and do something different? You might be surprised with the results.
Get Moving with Active Bucks – There is strong scientific evidence that physical activity can make a major contribution to leading a healthier, happier and less lonely life but not enough of us are meeting the recommended weekly requirements. In fact, data suggests that over 37% of Bucks adults don’t undertake enough physical activity to really benefit their health (150mins per week).
The Active Bucks project was set up in 2015 to try and reduce this figure and during this time, has helped around 5,000 residents take
their first steps into a new physical activity.
Over the next 18 months, they we will be focusing on older adults aged 65+ and setting up lots of new and exciting activities in the local community. The project aims to improve both physical and mental well-being, first focusing on Chiltern & South Bucks before moving up to the Wycombe District and Aylesbury Vale.
All sessions will be low cost (between £2-£4), beginner friendly and most importantly fun! A few examples of what is to come:
• Nordic wellbeing walks.
• Senior circuits.
• Seated Yoga.
• Table tennis.
More information can be found on the Active Bucks website, where you can also register to download a free first session voucher!
