Introduction to Services

These are the services we are offering


We will make information available about services which help people in their own homes.  Information will be provided over the telephone and through Voices and Choices’ online Information Hub. This will be augmented via Internet Chat or Video Conferencing services (such as Skype or FaceTime) and by visiting clients in their own homes.


Where our clients need non-statutory advocacy, we will provide it. A visit to a doctor, optician or council office can be very stressful and an advocate may make these experiences easier to deal with. Advocacy support may be required to talk to other professional services, such as solicitors, insurers, or accountants.  Helping someone prepare to visit a CAB or the DWP and ensuring their situation is presented accurately may also require advocacy support.


Many people living alone are also lonely.  We will offer support for tenant groups or social groups who might wish to provide information and advice themselves. Our accredited advice giving course can be available to local groups.

Peace of Mind Service

Voices and Choices are aware that many people living alone have family carers and relatives who are concerned about them. As part of our project we will offer those carers a service which will ensure that they know there is an organisation in regular touch with their family member.  The service may involve a weekly or monthly visit or telephone call, an emergency service or just access to information about local services.  A subscription service for this will be developed over time.


Where people require additional support to find services they require, our volunteers will visit people in their own homes to help them make informed choices and decisions. The support will help clients problem solve and signpost clients onto other services where appropriate. The range of help needed is very wide. Clients may wish to be contacted on a regular basis or need help with a one-off issue. For example, we will provide assistance if someone is considering the need for home improvements, or domestic or gardening help  and would require friendly back-up support for making decisions. Someone may need help to walk the dog , someone to feed the cats while they are away, a hairdresser who can visit them at home. We will not walk the dog, but we will find someone who will. The list is  endless and our volunteers will be available to provide as much practical assistance as the client requires.
