Dementia carers suffer from stress and anxiety
Hundreds of thousands of carers for dementia sufferers are suffering with exhaustion, stress and anxiety, experts warn.
There are 700,000 people in the UK who care for someone with the disease. The majority are unpaid family or friends of sufferers. And nine in 10 of the nation’s “silent army” of dementia carers suffer feelings of stress or anxiety several times a week, according to a new report by the Alzheimer’s Society.
Caring for a person with dementia is unlike caring for someone with any other condition or disability. That’s because of the complex, unpredictable and progressive nature of dementia.
